Pasco Deputy Shot During Gunfight With Armed Suspect

Pasco County, Florida — On March 9, 2026, Pasco County Deputies arrived in the area of New Port Richey after receiving a call from a woman who said she had been shot. Preliminary information suggests this dispute was regarding property use. Prior to law enforcement arrival, the subject, 32-year-old Aaron Rodriguez, shot an adult man who was pronounced deceased at the scene. Upon arrival, PSO deputies immediately located Rodriguez inside a nearby garage. Numerous attempts were made to de-escalate the situation through verbal engagement by multiple deputies, however, Rodriguez remained armed and refused to comply with commands, resulting in an exchange of gun fire with deputies. One deputy was shot by Rodriguez. Rodriguez was ultimately struck by deputies returning fire. Deputies detained Rodriguez and secured the gun. Rodriguez, along with the female victim and the deputy, were transported to a local hospital for their injuries. The deputy’s K9 partner sustained no injuries during the incident. The deputy has non-life threatening injuries.
