Dallas Police Officer Shoots Then Tazes Suspect Who Fired Gun

Dallas, Texas — On July 27, 2025, at approximately 2:15 a.m., Dallas police officers were working in a uniformed, off-duty capacity, in the 10700 block of Finnell Street, when they heard a gunshot. The preliminary investigation determined that 23-year-old Bryan Cruz-Campos was fighting with a man in the parking lot, when Cruz-Campos fired a handgun, grazing the man on the face. Officers went toward the sound of the gunshot and saw the two men fighting. The officer observed Cruz-Campos with a gun in his hand and gave loud verbal commands for Cruz-Campos to drop the gun. Cruz-Campos ignored the officer’s command and ran away. The officer broadcasted Cruz-Campos’ description over his police radio. Officer Keenen Anderson encountered Cruz-Campos, who was still holding the handgun. Officer Anderson gave Cruz-Campos multiple, loud verbal commands to drop the gun.

Cruz-Campos ignored Officer Anderson’s command, turned, and lifted the gun. Officer Anderson fired one round, hitting Cruz-Campos in the right shoulder. Cruz-Campos ran through the parking lot and across Finnell Street as Officer Anderson chased him, and while running, Cruz-Campos dropped the gun on the ground. Cruz-Campos moved towards the handgun and Officer Anderson fired one round, missing Cruz-Campos. Cruz-Campos made another motion towards the handgun. Officer Anderson kicked the gun away and tried to take Cruz-Campos into custody as a cover officer arrived to assist. Cruz-Campos attempted to run and was tazed by Officer Anderson to gain compliance. The cover officer then applied a tourniquet to Cruz-Campos’ arm. Dallas Fire Rescue arrived and transported Mr. Cruz to a local hospital in stable condition. Cruz-Campos’ is charged with aggravated assault and evading arrest. No officers were injured during this incident.
