Dallas Officer Exchanges Gunfire With Armed Suspect Locked In Bathroom With Grandmother

Dallas, Texas — On Monday, February 2, 2026, at approximately 8:41 p.m., Dallas Police received a 9-1-1 call reporting a disturbance armed encounter at a residence. The caller reported that 18-year-old Tony Robinson was armed, refusing to put the weapon away, and had threatened to shoot his father and others inside the home. During the incident, Robinson locked himself inside a bathroom with his grandmother, who was attempting to prevent him from harming anyone. Upon officers’ arrival, they were directed to the bathroom and advised that Robinson was inside and armed. Officers could hear an active disturbance coming from within the bathroom. Officers forced the bathroom door open, at which point Robinson confronted them while armed with a handgun and pointed the weapon in the officer’s direction. An exchange of gunfire occurred as the officer retreated for cover. Robinson fired one round, which struck the officer’s ballistic vest. The officer returned fire, striking Robinson. Robinson’s grandmother, who was inside the bathroom during the encounter, sustained injuries during the gunfire. Officers immediately rendered emergency medical aid until Dallas Fire-Rescue arrived. The suspect was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The grandmother was transported to a nearby hospital, where she was treated and released.
