PIT Maneuver Ends High-Speed Chase as Deputies Seize Drugs From Fleeing Suspects

Coweta County, Georgia — On October 20, 2024, around 4:00 a.m., Coweta County Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a red 2021 Hyundai Sonata for speeding at 88 mph. Instead of stopping, 26-year-old Isaiah Clark accelerated, reaching speeds over 130 mph while turning off the car’s headlights and taillights in an attempt to evade law enforcement. The pursuit lasted several miles, with Clark weaving through lanes before a deputy performed a PIT maneuver that successfully stopped the vehicle.

Once stopped, deputies arrested both Clark and his passenger, 40-year-old Jilian Stephens, who were found in possession of multiple bags of methamphetamine, marijuana, and prescription pills. The pair denied ownership of the drugs, but both were charged with possession of methamphetamine, marijuana, Alprazolam, and drug paraphernalia. Clark also faces additional charges, including reckless driving, speeding, and fleeing from police.

According to authorities, Clark initially resisted arrest by attempting to manipulate the vehicle's gearshift after it was stopped. Following their arrest, both Clark and Stephens were transported to Piedmont Newnan Hospital for medical evaluation before being booked into the Coweta County Jail. Clark's charges are more severe, as he was the driver during the high-speed pursuit, and he faces charges related to methamphetamine trafficking and felony fleeing.
