Officers Open Fire After Suspect Advances With Box Cutter

Bradley, Illinois — On April 8, 2026, at approximately 12:46 p.m., Bradley Police Department officers conducted a well-being check in the 600 block of Jonette Avenue. On arrival, officers encountered 34-year-old Jose Orozco of Bradley, armed with a box cutter. Officers attempted to talk with Orozco when he started advancing on them. ​Orozco disobeyed officers’ orders to stop and the officers discharged their weapons, striking Orozco. ​Officers rendered medical aid until EMS arrived on scene. ​Orozco was transported to an area hospital and pronounced deceased.
