Police Officers Shoot Man Armed With Knife in South San Francisco

South San Francisco, California — On December 8, 2025, at about 5:10 a.m., the South San Francisco Police Department received a 9-1-1 call regarding a welfare check on the 900 block of Sandra Court. The caller said her son, 28-year-old Luis Francisco-Manzo, was under the influence of drugs and armed with a knife. Four officers arrived at the scene and made contact with the reporting party outside of the residence. While speaking with her, Francisco-Manzo exited an apartment door down a long hallway. Officers began talking with Francisco-Manzo in an attempt to de-escalate the situation. Francisco-Manzo initially complied and approached officers as instructed. When he reached the officers' location, he immediately pulled out a knife and brandished it. Officers gave Francisco-Manzo commands to get on the ground and drop the knife, but he did not comply. Two officers deployed tasers, but the tasers proved ineffective. Francisco-Manzo advanced on the officers with the knife raised. Officer Corona and officer Hart discharged their service weapons. Officers provided medical aid until the arrival of south South San Francisco Fire Department Personnel, who were already staged nearby. Francisco-Manzo was transported to a hospital where he was listed in critical condition. No officers or members of the public were physically harmed in this incident.
