San Francisco, California — On May 23, 2024, at approximately 3:09 p.m., uniformed officers with the San Francisco Police Department responded to the area of Ingalls Streets and Armstrong Ave regarding a person with an AK-47. Officers arrived on scene and contacted the suspect, 37-year-old Yoshimar Zamora within the vicinity of Jennings Street and Donner Ave. Upon finding him, officers realized Zamora was carrying a crossbow instead.

Multiple responding officers gave Zamora multiple orders to drop the weapon with warnings that they would shoot if he didn’t comply. Within minutes of locating Zamora, two officers deployed beanbags and one officer fired his gun after the suspect began to raise both arms with the crossbow in hand. Zamora was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries due to a less lethal use of force that was used to take him into custody. Zamora did not sustain any gunshot wounds. Police located the crossbow loaded with a 15-inch bolt.
