Boise, Idaho — On September 2024, The Boise Police Department had been investigating a series of three armed robberies in the Boise/Nampa area leading up to September 24, 2024. Detectives identified 41-year-old Adam Lee Cook as their primary suspect. Because he was considered armed, dangerous, and likely to commit more robberies, law enforcement circulated a bulletin with his photo and information. They also learned that Cook drove a 2017 Jeep Renegade and lived at an apartment on N. Cole Road in Boise. That same night, police responded to another armed robbery at an Adam & Eve adult store near Fairview Avenue. A masked suspect, matching Cook’s description, pointed a gun at employees and demanded money before fleeing. Since Cook’s apartment was less than a mile from the robbery scene, officers moved toward his residence to watch for him. As they arrived, they spotted the Jeep Renegade driving into the lot. When they tried to stop him, Cook at first appeared to comply but then cursed at the officers and sped away, launching a high-speed chase through Boise.
During the pursuit, Cook drove recklessly—swerving into oncoming traffic at speeds over 90 mph, blowing through stop signs and a red light. Officers attempted a PIT maneuver but failed, and due to the risk to the public, they temporarily ended the chase. Cook was last seen driving into a residential neighborhood, where an officer soon spotted him fleeing on foot into the backyard of a family's home, where he hid in and behind sheds on the property. During the standoff, Corporal Gutierrez attempted to de-escalate and convince Cook to surrender peacefully. Cook emerged from behind the shed and again pointed his hands toward corporal Gutierrez in a manner consistent with someone holding a firearm. Corporal Gutierrez and officer Jayne discharged their service weapons. After corporal Gutierrez discharged his service weapon, officers gave Cook commands to drop the gun. Only then did Cook say that he did not have a gun, but officers could not confirm that he was unarmed. Officers gave commands for cook to approach them so he could be separated from the firearm and provided medical aid.
Cook continued to show the ability to move, but did not comply with the officers' commands. A 40mm less-lethal foam projectile was deployed with no effect. After the 40mm less-lethal foam projectile proved ineffective, a k-9 was deployed to move Cook closer to the officers and away from the potential firearm. Cook was taken into custody, and officers began medical aid. After the incident, it was determined that Cook was holding a stick and pointing it at officers to simulate that he had a firearm. The gun used in the store robbery was later located hidden near the store. Cook was transported to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds and a dog bite to the neck. He survived his injuries. Cook was charged with four counts of robbery, two counts of grand theft, one count of felony eluding a police officer, unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and an enhancement for use of a deadly weapon in commission of a felony. Cook pleaded guilty to robbery on June 16, 2025, and was sentenced to life in prison with a fixed term of 40 years.
