Fairhope, Alabama — On October 18, 2025, protesters had gathered along Greeno Road as part of the “No Kings” rally during a political demonstration in Fairhope. Among them was 61-year-old Renea Gamble, who showed up wearing an inflatable penis costume and holding a political sign aimed at criticizing Donald Trump. According to legal filings, she had been peacefully participating in the protest without any issues reported by bystanders or other demonstrators. The encounter escalated when Fairhope Police Col. Andrew Babb arrived on scene and confronted Gamble about her costume. Babb told her the outfit would not be tolerated in what he described as a town with “values,” expressing concern about children potentially seeing it. Despite protestors insisting she wasn’t doing anything wrong, Babb deemed her behavior disorderly. Bodycam footage shows him grabbing the back of her inflatable costume and pulling her to the ground before officers handcuffed her. That moment ignited the legal dispute now underway, with Gamble’s attorneys arguing that the arrest violated her First Amendment right to political expression.
