Brentwood Officer Fires After Suspect Grabs Gun

Brentwood, California — On December 24, 2025, at approximately 10:55 p.m., Brentwood Police Officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop in the area of Balfour Road and Foothill Drive for suspicion of DUI. The driver identified as 43-year-old Romaine Morgan, from Stockton, California was the only occupant in the vehicle. During the DUI investigation, officers developed probable cause to search the vehicle which was registered to Morgan. During the search, officers located a loaded firearm concealed on the front passenger-side floorboard. When officers attempted to arrest Morgan, he physically resisted officers and was able to gain control of the firearm. One Brentwood officer discharged their service weapon striking Morgan. Several officers rendered emergency medical aid until paramedics arrived on scene. Morgan succumbed to his injuries on scene.
