Russian President Vladimir Putin is hosting leaders and delegation heads from all 11 Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member states in Kazan, marking 35 years of Russia–ASEAN relations. The bloc represents a combined population of over 680 million people and a GDP exceeding $4 trillion, making it one of the world's largest economic groupings.
Russia has been increasingly reorienting its economy towards fast-growing Asian markets, with energy, trade, digital technologies and AI among the key areas of cooperation.
A strategic partnership plan and joint statements on energy and culture are expected to be announced on Thursday.

Al Jazeera's Yulia Shapovalova reports from Kazan, Russia.
