More than three months after the US and Israel first began their war with Iran, Washington and Tehran have reached an initial agreement to bring about a more long-term end to hostilities.

US President Donald Trump has said it paves the way for what he called the "toll-free" opening of the Strait of Hormuz. He called on ships to start their engines and "let the oil flow".

The full text of the deal has not yet been released. Pakistani mediators say the agreement will be officially signed in Switzerland on Friday 19 June.

Our US State Department correspondent Tom Bateman tells us that President Trump and Iranian officials are already giving different accounts of what's been agreed.
