The United States and Iran are offering different accounts of when a preliminary agreement aimed at extending their ceasefire will be signed.
US President Donald Trump and Pakistani mediators say a memorandum of understanding is set to be signed on Sunday, while Iran's foreign ministry insists no date has been finalized.
The proposed agreement would extend the current ceasefire by another 60 days, allowing negotiators more time to address key issues, including Iran's nuclear programme.
Trump says the Strait of Hormuz would reopen immediately once the deal is signed and has ruled out releasing billions of dollars in frozen Iranian assets as part of the initial agreement.
Iran, however, has suggested that access to its frozen funds and conditions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz remain part of the ongoing negotiations, highlighting significant differences between the two sides.
The uncertainty underscores the challenges that remain despite growing optimism about a possible diplomatic breakthrough.
