US and Iranian officials say progress has been made following extended negotiations mediated by Qatar and Pakistan, with technical teams now tasked with advancing the framework for a possible agreement.

Talks lasting more than 18 hours focused on establishing mechanisms for de-escalation, including maintaining stability in key maritime routes such as the Strait of Hormuz, and addressing sanctions relief linked to Iran’s economy.

While US officials described the discussions as constructive, differences remain over nuclear oversight, the sequencing of sanctions relief, and how any released funds may be used.

Analysts say both sides are also addressing domestic political pressures, contributing to differing public interpretations of the same negotiations.

Further technical discussions are expected in the coming weeks as mediators work to narrow gaps on core issues, including nuclear compliance and financial arrangements.
