Germany saw a new all-time high temperature for the second day in a row, recording 41.5C (106.7F) on Saturday.
Berlin police deployed water cannon across the city, spraying cooling mist over people seeking relief from the intense heat.
The heatwave is now moving further east and western Europe is expected to see a mild drop in temperatures.

Al Jazeera’s Rebecca Collard reports from Berlin, Germany.
