Slidell, Louisiana — In a high-stakes search that spanned an entire day, Slidell Police officers and K-9 units successfully recovered a firearm used to shoot at responding officers during a domestic dispute. The suspect, 39-year-old Corey Griffin of Mississippi, had vowed authorities would “never find” the weapon after fleeing into nearby woods and ultimately being discovered in the backseat of an abandoned vehicle. What Griffin didn’t count on was K-9 Max, a trained police dog who followed his nose straight to the hidden firearm late Monday night. The gun-recovery was caught on bodycam and celebrated on social media, where Max quickly became a local celebrity.
The incident began after a 911 hang-up led police to a chaotic scene on Rivera Drive, where officers encountered Griffin arguing with a woman outside a home. As they approached, Griffin opened fire but missed, then retreated into the house with a child inside before slipping into the woods. While SWAT teams secured the residence and drones combed the skies, ground units tracked Griffin to a nearby neighborhood. With Griffin in custody, the final piece of the puzzle — the gun — was still missing. That’s when K-9 Max delivered. Griffin now faces a long list of charges, including attempted murder of a police officer, weapon and drug offenses, and obstruction of justice.
*Note* : There is no audio for the first 18 seconds. During some parts in the video, Officer Zach Colgan is talking to Max in Dutch.
