Two tributes to Lionel Messi reflected Argentina’s devotion to its captain during the 2026 World Cup: a monumental statue in Patagonia and a collective mural near Buenos Aires.

Around 20 people worked for a year and a half on the structure of the statue, which stands 85 feet high. Leonel García painted the hyperrealistic mural of a smiling Messi surrounded by the names of more than 1,300 supporters.
