Israel has maintained near-total control over what enters Gaza for almost two decades, restricting food, water, fuel and medicine. Since October 2023, that control has intensified sharply. Despite a ceasefire agreement to allow up to 600 aid trucks daily, only about a third of those deliveries have been permitted through. Nearly 90% of Gaza's water and sanitation infrastructure has been damaged, 86% of essential medical supplies are depleted, and around one million people — roughly 90% of the population — are living in makeshift tents.
