US Central Command has confirmed additional strikes on Iran following a reported attack on commercial shipping, marking a further escalation in tensions in the Gulf region.

Iranian state media reports multiple explosions in the port city of Sirik in southern Iran, with officials saying projectiles targeted a telecommunications tower. The city lies near the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.

This marks the second reported strike on the area in as many days, as tit-for-tat exchanges continue between the United States and Iran despite a recent memorandum of understanding aimed at de-escalation.

The situation remains highly volatile, with both sides trading accusations and military action around one of the world’s most important shipping corridors.

More details are expected as the situation develops.
