US-Iran talks in Switzerland stall as Lebanon escalation tests diplomacy

Diplomatic efforts between the United States and Iran have stalled in Switzerland, where face-to-face talks were expected but delayed amid mounting tensions across the region.

The negotiations, hosted at a Swiss mountain resort in Burgenstock with mediation from Qatar and Pakistan, were meant to advance a framework agreement covering sanctions relief, nuclear commitments, and regional de-escalation.

However, intensified violence in southern Lebanon between Israel and Hezbollah has emerged as a key sticking point, with dozens reported killed in recent Israeli strikes despite a ceasefire arrangement. The escalation has further complicated efforts to move forward with the US-Iran understanding.
